Asalamualaikum

I was just wondering, is masjid al aqsa today the same mosque that prophet muhammad (saw) went to on the night of isra and miraj?

Also, how would you reply to an atheist who makes an argument saying if al aqsa is actually holy, and that islam is true, why would god allow earthquakes to damage the mosque, as I believe had happened?
