Not to disrespect anybody, but isn't making a conscious decision to disobey the command of the Prophet

indicative of an internal, hidden problem? (not just with regard to the beard, but when for example people say "so and so doesn't pray, but he has a good heart"...he may be a nice person but there is one aspect in which his heart is defective).
