The Mu´tamad in the school of the Shafi´is is that it is makruh to take anything from the beard, except for Hajj and Umrah where one would be permitted to trim it to one fist length, following the actions of ´Abdallah ibn ´Umar (radiya'Allahu ´anhu) and others.
