Really, she shouldn't read more than a word at a time. But if she is studying the translation she doesn't really need to read the words out. She can just look into someone else's Quran while the teacher is teaching it.

If she's using a translation of the Quran, she is still not allowed to touch it.

If she's using a tafseer, where the commentary outweighs the verses themself, then it's permissible to touch the parts of the book where the ayahs are not written.

so in that case a book in which the words outweigh the quraan ayahs it is permissible to touch?
