I truly believe that the best thing a Muslim youth can do to get closer to Allah is to build a strong relationship with the Qur'an.
Reciting and memorizing Qur'an regularly and learning the meaning will bring up your iman.

Youths should enter programs like Bayyinah institute to learn at least minimum Arabic so they can understand the word of Allah. Other things like studying tafseer and reading scholarly commentary on Qur'anic verses will also be extremely beneficial.

Once a strong relationship with the Qur'an is built, everything else will automatically fall into place (salah, fasting, charity, akhlaq etc...)
