Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Malik were contemporaries, they met and benefitted from each other.
Imam Shafi´i studied under Imam Malik and Abu Hanifa's student Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Shaybani.
Imam Ahmad studied under Abu Hanifa's student Abu Yusuf and under Imam Shafi´i.
