it is important to keep intention for worship pure, and that is to worship to please Allah only; all other benifits are side effects thus spiritual upliftments and the feelings of peace etc should not be a goal at all; one is to just keep their intention pure and be content with Allah giving him ability to worship; the spiritual upliftments and a feeling of closeness to Allah will come all in good time

Its true that we should worship Allah SWT simply because He SWT is worthy of it. And I'm sure if we were able to see Allah SWT, we'd all uncontrollably praise and worship Him SWT out of awe.

Still, Allah SWT tells us:

(Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.)

(Qur'an 13: 28)

In other words, He SWT is telling us the peace we are seeking lies in His SWT remembrance. Wallahu a'llam. Barak Allah ta'aala
