Assalam alaikum
I agree with brother Untold truth that the experiences of tasswuf cannot be explained through literal explanations which is why there is a need for a shaikh the reason there is a need for secrecy is because experiences of tasswuf cannot be explained through a checklist manner there is a need for personal guidance and indepth knowledge which cannot be attained through books.
From my personal experience the most in depth literature on tassawuf I have studied are the Maktubat of the Imam-e-Rabbani Hazrat Mujaddid Alif Sani rehmatullah alahay but I could not understand 90% of it until I gave bayat to my sheikh.
