1. Translation can vary from person to person.
2. As we all are human's the error's can happen.
3. To preserve the words of holy book we are not suppose to recite the translation of the quran in any other language in salah.

Any thing more brother?
bro. You can show him the following hadith too.

Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.”
[At-Tirmidhi].

Here the hadith is clear that the reward is for the letters in Arabic.

Edit: I would also like to add. During the time of Rasoolullah there were Sahaba who were non-Arabs. But is there any proof that our Rasool allowed Salah in a foreign language? No.
Also the people who understood Islam best are the Sahabah. During their times Islam had spread to non-arab speaking areas like persia. But is there a single example of any sahaba or the Salaf As Saliheen allowing Salah in a language other than arabic.? No.

I hope you will be able to convince your friend InshaAllah. Make sure you make dua before you talk to him. May Allah save us from such errors and guide us in the right path. Ameen.
