I don't think it is right for Brother John to say that they didn't "want" to talk to him. We are told to have Husn ad-dhann - but what the Brother said in the video is far from it. It is really hard to believe he has a link to Deoband.

According to wikipedia he is the first westerner to graduate from deoband. Check the source.

We don't really know what context he's talking about based on that video anyway.
