Asalamualaikum.


I actually have asked this question to a scholar and a couple of shuyukh. I was informed that you shouldn't even look at your teachers for learning purposes (that is if they are the opposite gender). I am in college in the U.S., and realize that it isn't necessary to look at your teacher.

Look at the board and listen to what she has to say, but no need to look. If you need to talk to her look over her shoulder or above her head. This is what I do. I know that my teachers know that I am not looking at them, but they don't really mind. I actually had this discussion last week with one of my teachers. She said that she understands that I am not allowed to look at women and doesn't mind at all.

They may not agree, but they will respect you. Be strong.
I'll take your advice.
But, do I still have to lower my gaze if one of my female teachers is like 50 years old (English Teacher).
