Yes, he has passed away but he was the head of the Wahhabiyya in Damascus. He was once accused of tampering with the words of Imam al-Nawawi in his Kitab al Adhkar, but when he was asked directly by Shaykh Mahmud Saeed Mamduh if he had done this - al-Arna'ut replied by blaiming the Riyadh based Wahhabi printers for tampering with it instead! Arna'uts hand written reply is printed in the back of Shaykh Mahmud' book on Tawassul: Raf al-Minara (which refuted most of the contemporary Wahhabi lies on this issue) in nearly 400 pages. Al-Arna'ut could not openly bring up the attacks that the likes of his fellow Albanian brought up against the real Sunni Way, namely, Nasirud-Din al Albani - since Abdal Qadir was surrounded by the Ulama of Sham who are mainly Madhhabi/Sunni/Sufi. I think Abdal Qadir was more fair in his judgements on the gradings of Hadith than the likes of Nasir al Albani. And Allahu a'lam.
