1.Because there were scholars amoung the sahaba (RAD) even though they had Quran and knew saying of the prophet
2. Because Allah commands us to refer to people of knowledge and authority
3. Because we don't have the ability to differentiate various text and neither the entire human race has uniform understanding and same level of intelect or clarity or purity of thought and heart.
4. Practicality calls for following scholarship just in every field be it relegious or irrelegious.
