Ml. Ashraf Ali has stated that you are supposed to look for an other Shaykh within 3 days after the Shaykh has left this world. This was narrated to us by Ml. Mahboob Zakariyya, one of the khulafa of Ml. Hakeem Akhtar.

Person should find the next in line khalifah to his shaikh for islah, but the bayt to the previous shaikh hasnt ended just because he died. In fact, many mashaikheen say that bayt never ends not even if the shaikh himself says that he breaks off the bayt. Continue to receive the spiritual attention of your shaikh after his demise by reading his books, listening to his lectures etc.
