I'm a single mother and I have to work.

There is nothing in Islam that states women should be disrespected because she is a divorcee. As much as divorce is disliked (for both men and women) these things happen in life.

Islamically I've never felt 'inadequate'. Actually I performed istihkara to guide me with my decisions. Whats happened has happened for the best. However I have had some people tell me what happened is wrong and base it all on 'culture'.

Islamically there is nothing wrong with your situation.
