Not being part of a sect
hoping this post reaches everyone in the best of health and imaan, ameen!
So, randomly doing my research as I do on the Middle East (I hope to move there in the next few years, insha'Allah - I'm interested in Oman, if anyone wants to give me some information on there?
), I found out that Oman is the only Muslim country with an Ibadhi-sect majority, followed by Sunni Islam.
I've read before that there are plenty of arguments against even having any sects at all. Here are a few ayat from the Qur'an that people who don't attribute themselves with a sect use for their argument:
“And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves” [3:103]
“As for those who divide Their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: Their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did.” [6:159]
"O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination." [4:59]
“Who is better in speech than one who calls (men) to Allah, works righteousness, and says, "I am of those who bow in Islam?" [41:33]
"Be united by holding onto God's Covenant, and do not be divided" [8:46]
I am a Sunni Muslim, and although they have a fair argument regarding the sects, I believe in the Sunni viewpoints on Islam, and the line of caliphs after Muhammad
What are your views on this?
ALSO, a little extra: what are your views on Sunni Muslims praying in a Shi'a mosque, and so forth? Most people I've spoken to have done this, and have had no problems.
