Best aqeedah is Aqeedah At-Tahawiyyah on which there is consensus. And no it's not like haram to read it alone at home. But do clarify with authentic Ahlus Sunnah scholars if you face doubts.

Otherwise we would remain entrenched in jahaalat forever.
