I was informed some time ago, that one must be careful when keeping a cat as a pet. I cannot remember the details, however it was explained that we are "not" allowed to pay money for a cat and if one was to purchase a cat with money it would be haram. I assume that this means one must simply adopt or take in a stray cat.
I have three very large parrots and a massive salt water aquarium, it is exceptionally expensive and a lot of work. It is very hard to provide attention / take care and purchase foods constantly. So be careful what you get yourself into,
