My humble advice would be to look for a Shaykh with whom you find munasabat (congeniality), as he will be your instructor on the path. Tasawwuf is living, and you will find that many accomplished Shuyoukh will apply the principles of a certain Tariqa rather freely, according to his own experience, to serve the spiritual needs of the Murid.
