When we get close to anyone, then will get to know him and understand him and trust him fully and so is the case with Allah SWT.
When one gets close to Allah SWT, he will then get the recognition of Allah SWT and will be able to trust Him fully. Our beloved Prophet SAW said that nothing can get us close to Allah SWT other than obligatory acts; and the nafil acts will get us more close to Him SWT until He SWT becomes our eyes, ears and feet. InshaaAllah we will find Him right before us through obligatory acts and if we fail in this aspect in getting close to Allah SWT then know that it might be because of sins as they come between us and Allah SWT as a barrier taking us away from Allah SWT. Also when one helps His SWT creations, one will get His kurb (closeness). If we want to know and recognize Allah SWT, then we should get close to him through obligatory acts, doing khidmat of His creations and keeping away from sins Nafil ibadah will take us more close to Him SWT inshaaAllah.
