I think it's a waste of time. And it's not permissible to waste time in futile activities that serve no worldly or ukhraawi benefits.

Maybe, but I used to do them to keep kids happy so I'm not entirely sure if it's a waste of time as such... but I just need to know whether they are permissible in general
