I'm in this situation at the moment too...and now I have made a conscious decision not to go to university. Besides the fitna which puts me off, like many others I don't have nine grand to spare, so financially I can't. But khayr Alhamdulillah, I have never been too keen on university.

With regards to open uni, I have a friend who did her degree for free because she was not earning and so they allowed her to do it for free. Apprentice (for brothers) seems to be a good idea too and in apprenticeships here in the UK, they send their employees to uni and pay for their tuition fees. So Alhamdulillah there are still options available.
