i dont think socks for masah need to be waterproof. i think the only criteria in regards to water is that the water is not felt on the skin when the masah is done.....

and masah is done with wet hands and not hands that are dripping with loads of water.

three things are important, strength, ability to keap water out, & it should be covering from the toes to above the ankles.
