Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,

Sometimes, when I am in a hurry at work (e.g. going into a meeting), I tend to restrict my sunnah prayers to its waajib elements. However, I had a query about: “Omitting the surah after Fatiha”.

From my understanding, Shafi’is don’t consider it as an arkaan nor a waajib so sujud is not required. It will be really helpful if you could share the positions of the other 3 school e.g. if prostration of forgetfulness is required or not. InshaAllah, my intention is to pray a prayer that is valid according to all 4 schools even if time's running tight.

yes you may leave the surah in your sunnah salah. however if its a fardh salah & you leave the surrah out then the sajidah becomes necessary because its from the abaadh of salah. akhi if you leave out a wajib or a rukun (one & the same for shafi's) then you would need to repeat the salah. a sajidah would not be enough.
