Hanafi Madhab:

Text: Salah of Solar Eclipse with Congregation is Sunnah and it consists of two Rakaats.

Evidence: Nauman Ibn Bashir (RA) said that the Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) prayed the Salatul-Khusoof with us like one of your Salahs. He went into Ruku and performed the Sajdah, praying two Rakaats two Rakaats with two Rukuhs and supplicated to Allah (SWT) until the sun clearly reappeared. [Abi Dawud]

Text: Recitation during the congregational Salah can be done silently or loudly.

Evidence:Samurah Ibn Jundub (RA) said that the Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam)led the Salah during the Solar eclipse and did not recite aloud [Ibn Abi Shaybah]

Imam Muhammad (RA) has said, “It has not come to our knowledge the Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) read aloud in it, although it has come to our knowledge that Ali Ibn Talib (RA) read the Qur’aan aloud in it at Kufah. [Kitabul-Aathaar]

This is the opinion of Imam Abu Haneefa (to recite silently) but Imam Abu Yusuf (RA) says that the recitation should be done loudly and Imam Muhammad (RA) has recorded both opinions. [Tuhfatul-Fuqaha]

Text:There is no congregational Salah for Lunar Eclipse and people pray individually.

Evidence: Imam Muhammad (RA) says, “As for Lunar eclipse, people pray Salah individually and not in congregation, neither with the Imam nor with anyone else”

Shaf’ae Madhab:

Text: Salah of Eclipse with Congregation is confirmed Sunnah and missing it is not permissible (rather it is offensive) & it consists of two Rakaats.

Evidence: See Reliance of the Traveller, f20.0 & f20.1

Text: The details of each Rakaat during Eclipse prayer is as follows:
1. To open with Allahu-Akbar
2. To recite the Fatihah
3. To bow
4. To straighten up
5. To recite the Fatihah again
6. To bow again
7. To straighten up and remain motionless for a moment
8. To prostrated, then sit up and then to prostrate again
This is one Rakaat comprising of standing twice, reciting (Fatihah) twice and bowing twice. One then prays the second Rakaat like the first one.

Evidence: See Reliance of the Traveller, f20.4

Text: Salah for Lunar Eclipse is also prayed with congregation in the Shaf’ae Madhab.

Evidence: Imam Hasan Al-Basari (RA) narrates that when Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) was the Ameer of Basrah the moon was eclipsed. Therefore he came into the Masjid and lead people in two Rakaat Salah and in each Salah he performed two Rukuhs and said, “I have performed it the same way as I saw Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) perform his prayer” [Musnad Imam Shaf’ae (RA)]
