Hadhrat Mawlana Fadhl Ali Quraishi (rahimahullah) said that he was not a Deobandi by definition (i.e. having studied under any of the graduates of Darul Uloom Deoband) but his beliefs were the same as theirs.
Yes and that was the direct quote which I was referring to. I posted it earlier. It settles the issue once and for all. It's like the letter of Haji Imdadullah in support of Mawlana Gangohi in which he says "My ‘aqidah (belief) and Mawlana’s ‘aqidah is one and the same."

It seems like these statements were made by these great awliyah for the purpose of making people of that time and those who will come later aware of the reality so that those who try to discredit them (or some of their khulafah) by distorting history are unable to do so.
