Salaam's
Well like you I myself was highly impressed by some Of Maulana sahibs writing,
and could not understand why there was a some Ulema were against him until oneday I was in the Library and I came across his book Islam Rediscovered.
The denial of Jihad...according to Maulana Jihad in reality is innerstruggle.
Islam and Politics should not mix.
There is No real concept of Khilafa.
The need for Ijtehad so that Islam can be re-intrepreted from the original sources
and be Progressive and fill the needs of the Modern era.etc
Denial of Hadd Punishment e.t.c.
Maulana Sahib has some very modernist views.
for sometime he was with Jaamat e Islami...he left them and Joined the Tabligh movement. In 1975 he cut himself of from the Tabligh and set up his own institute in Delhi.
Also Maulana sahib has become popular with the Indian establishment for cosistently writing against Jihad and describing it as "The Menace Of Terrorism."
You can read his other writings in Urdu on his site called Alrisala.org.
Also if you google Maulana sahibs name you will come across a very interesting article on Maulana Sahib in the Milligazette.
Anyways Purchase a copy of Islam Rediscovered and all should be made clear.
