We subscribe to a service that is provided the data from 1/3 of the ISP's [internet service providers] in the UK. When we talk about data we are talking about everything. You can rest assure that much that the ISP gives the information anonymously and by this I mean they do not provide the individual persons name [so I have been told] What kind of information? or how does it work? Lets take a choice to make a purchase of clothing. You logon to your computer and fire up a browser. 1) The browser, all of its addons including all its history, logins and passwords, etc are with the ISP. Even if it is encrypted it can ultimately be accessed if need be. >>> The choice of browser and PC power is info that gets passed on, the rest is not. 2) You go to google and put in a search term >> the choice of search site, keyword is passed on. 3) You visit multiple sites >>> all sites visited passed on, including every page and time spent. 4) You make a purchase on a site >> what you bought, how much cost, which payment provider all passed on. Every possible concievable action is recording and passed on, but due to data protection the individual persons detail is not passed on. This means 100,000 people searched using Google for cheap clothes and visited xxxxxx.com and where on that site for average 12 minutes and xxx number of them went to xxx site and the remaining went to xxxx pages and bought these items, etc. That is how the data is shared without stating a specific person. This is factual since we buy this data in our company to monitor competition and to find gaps in the market. This knowledge will not affect you since you have to use the internet and require an ISP. I am not attempting to scare monger anyone but stating something factual. Data protection does protect you and most of this data is not accessible to employees of the ISP's except for a key individuals. However it is not accessible on a one to one basis so easily otherwise they would have been able to convict hackers instantly by approaching the ISP's and demanding the data from xx house where the internet is connected from. But something to be aware of
