Salaam

I read someone on this forum (abt 1 year back) and he said that he met mufti abu lubabah, personally, and asked abt dr israr from him, mufti sahib said that "he comits mistakes"

Plus, i once saw mufti jameel ahmad al-thanawis article written against the dr.isrars view abt marriage, entitled "Nya firqa nai tehreek".

Brother, i think that this is not a very fair comment! Although dr.israr detaches himself from many of the "big blunders" made by maududi, but he still considres him to be one of his sources of inspiration--U must be aware of dr israr telling that he has been inspired by 6 personalities, including hadhrat shaykhul-hind, allamah shabbir ahmad usmani, dr.iqbal, maulana azad and maududi . So, to claim that dr israr is the harshest critic of maududi is, i believe, incorrect.

This is true but to "some extenet". Sometimes, dr.israr bashes the ulama, too, on certain issues, for e.g

1. When dr israr was questioned on his comin on the TV, he replied that the ulama have got an :allergic" attitude towards new inventions; Previously, they even labelled prayers through loudspeaker to be haram.

2. I remember once reading dr.israr where he was criticising the ulama of Hind for not "studying" bible and hindu religious books.

3. Most importantly, one gets the impression from his lectures and writings that the ulama are being undutiful, neglectful and hence comiiting a grave sin (since dr israr labells it as a grave sin) in the establishment of khilafah. (at least this is the imression which io got, previously).

So, such statemets, i believe, are defaming the ulama, since, any laymen who'll come across such comments would start distrusting the ulama.

Other problems are

1. Firstly, he, too, is a self-styled alim, as was maududi, though, he does not deviates much fom the jamhoor.

2. He does not believes in taqleed--he says that i am a "partial muqallid"--i dont do taqleed of any one particular imam but i do keep myself within the 4 bmadhahibs and the madh-hab of imam bukhari. He endorsed the tqleed 4 the laymen but encoureaged the ulama to not to do the latter.

This view is ofcourse contrary to the beliefs of our ulama.

Wallahu A'lam

As-salamu 'alaykum,

JazakAllah. Nicely summed up. Unfortunately respected Uncle Muadh Khan's post above was a bit exaggerated.
