sorry I don't have the source and I don't remember where I get the quote. It could be meant that the buildings on the Ka'abah's vicinity never been taller than the Ka'abah itself because any buildings built on the hill can be taller than Ka'abah and the minaret itself is taller than Ka'abah


Even if there were buildings taller, at least they probably wouldn't have been anything like today. Look at this. And wht is worse is the amount of shops all around the Haram. It is possible that some people waste a lot of their reward due to spending time in the markets (most hated part of a city to Allah) surrounding the Haramayn.
