There has been a difference on the issue even among the Sahaba with regards to this issue. On both sides you have great sahaba and sahabiyat. Hence it is not appropriate to make one definite stance on it. Some Shurrah and Ulama have made preference of one opinion over the other but the best is to just say Allahu wa Rasuluhu A'lam
