Assalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

A sister has asked me about her fast. She made du'aa to Allah yesterday night that she wants to keep both Qadha and Shawwal fast for today and to give her the taufeeq to wake up at suhoor. It so happens that she didn't. So she says she did gargle water but didn't feel anything go down the throat. In the morning she asked me if her fast was valid or not. She hasn't eaten, as far as I know the intention of the Ramadhan fast maybe kept until Zawwal time, so because it was before zawwal that we spoke I told her to renew her intention and not eat until I find out an answer for her. Is her fast valid?
