I lived in New Delhi all my childhood, and you find all sorts of people everywhere.

Close to Nizamuddin, you have many poor people but very pious and righteous.

And you find more Hindu poor people, good and bad. So saying this about only the muslims of India is farfetched.

Mufti Zarwali in his Dawra Tafseer said along this line:

"When the christians left their religion, they found advancement

And when the Muslims left their religion, all they found was backwardness"
