Also in my own opinion the south indians are way more tolerent than north indians. South indian non-muslims are not as racist as their northern counterparts. I have found south indians to be very decent people and more honest than their northern counterparts. However northern indians seem to be more religious. I have met many keralians but very few of them have a beard. It is very hard to tell who is a muslim or non-muslim in kerala. They seem to have integrated with the hindu population. In places like Gujrat there is a distinct line between muslim and non-muslim and many muslims are recognizable with their beards, topi and islamic attire.
Spot on. Its true.

I think the issue with beard and keralites is that its predominantlly Shafi'i in Kerala, and its taught here that shaving is Makhrooh (not Haraam) in accordance with a valid opinion in Shafi'i madhab (maybe not the majority opinion, but its a valid one) . Its also true they mingle easily with hindus and christians. Perhaps due to the less racism ifrom them.
