Isn't there a hadith where the Messenger

consoles a young boy whose bird dies? And the permissibility of keeping birds is derived from this hadith? In which case, how can it be 'cruel' to keep a bird locked up in a cage if it is permissible? (I'm assuming the Sahaba

had kept the bird in a cage)
