Thnks for this. Being a Maliki I accept that a small piece of silk is overlooked, a tie is a small piece of silk, a part of a greater whole (shirt & tie & dress suit), and thus halal. Of course it is possible to argue that a tie is an article of clothing on its own the converse is also possible, this is a matter of semantics.

Do Malikis really consider a tie to be part of the shirt (and/or suit) and not a separate article of clothing? That's interesting. Can you or someone else direct me to a resource that explains the Maliki rationale for permitting pure silk ties for men?
