Asalam o Alaikum Brothers,

I moved to Canada almost two weeks ago, I was living in Scarborough near Masjid Abu Bakr then moved to Mississauga on friends advice as there are many job opportunities in here. Unfortunately, there is no masjid closer or my place or I don't know of. I have been trying to find even an odd job at a gas station but couldn't be lucky enough(may be 'coz of my beard) smiles... I request all of you brothers and sisters to make duwa for me and may Allah makes things easy for me in this country.

Jazak'Allah,
Kashif.

Assalamu Alaikum,

Masha Allah. Your family has made a really good decision of moving to the most beautiful country in the world. : )

The country is clean. People are kind towards Muslims. The weather is awesome. A good Muslim presence. What more do you want?

A bit of info on both places.

Toronto has a much larger population than Calgary. Toronto's Muslim population is almost 300,000 (2009) whereas Calgary has a Muslim population of about 30,000.

Therefore, Toronto has MANY more Masjids than Calgary.

Toronto has more than 125: http://www.salatomatic.com/lir.php?id=3
Calgary has only 8: http://www.salatomatic.com/lir.php?id=6

Toronto has many more Islamic Schools than Calgary.

Also, I'm guessing that you are of Arabic background. Is that an Egyptian flag in your Avatar? There are many more people of Arabic background and Egyptian Muslims in Toronto than in Calgary.

So, my advice would be to move to Toronto instead of Calgary. But, there are more engineering types of jobs and jobs in general in Alberta which is the province than in Toronto.

So both the places have Muslims. Both the places are good but since having a job is important, than Calgary has more jobs than Toronto.

Calgary is a city in the province of Alberta. If you really want to move to a city in Alberta, then I would advise your family to move to Edmonton instead of Calgary. Edmonton has a really good Masjid and an even better awesome Islamic School:

Masjid: http://www.alrashidmosque.ca/index.php
Masha Allah a really good looking Islamic School: http://www.islamicacademy.ca/site/photo_new_facility

So once again, Toronto is better than Calgary but Edmonton is better than Calgary if you must move to Alberta. IMHO

You mention about the crime rate. There is no need to worry. Our family has been living in Toronto since the last nearly 40 years and we know for sure that there is no need to worry about the crime rate of Toronto. Alhamdulillah, Canada is a very peaceful country as compared to other countries.

Moving is one of the hardest things in life. I pray that may Allah make your move easy for you. After moving to Canada, please do not forget your Muslim identity and do not forget that you are a Muslim.
