Salam

in Calgary the weather can get really depressing in the winter as the days are extremely short and cold...and thus seasonal affective disorder usually kicks in with me note this effect will only be enhanced in more northern areas like edmonton.

We have very few masajids (just one actually) in calgary but we have quite a few musallas. the difference being that the "mosque authorities" intend to sell the musallas thus they cannot be considered masjid and one cannot perform itikaf there. in calgary neither the main masjid nor the musalla have a full-time imam (for the last couple of years) rather they have imams who r usually only present at these locations to lead salah for juma, eid, taraweeh but not regularly

In my opinion there is a huge lack of ulema here and you can really feel this wherever you go in the city, but alhamdulillah there is one alim who studied in darul uloom bufalo whom i have really benefited from.

Calgary does have a thriving Egyptian community (mainly professionals, engineers, doctors, computer & tech people) and alhamdulillah typically anytime im praying salah at the university w/ jamat there will be egyptian brothers with me.

and as said previously alberta is a place where one can find jobs with more ease, however it does seem to suffer from a lack of ulema and spiritually inclined people and communities as you would find in Vancouver or toronto.
