Your right brother i would only tell someone about the past to make them believe but what your saying is true aswell that people can tell you about the past. What i see is that your friend shouldnt have became a mureed just like that.You need to have look if he read 5 time salah, follows the sunnah of prophet, Has knowledge of quran and hadees and is able to answer your questions qutoing from quran etc. Does he follow the 5 pillars of islam, what are his believes and aqeeda. What tariqa is he from what is there golden chain you need to check on all these things then become mureed. even the none muslims can tell you about your past etc does it mean there religion is right it doesnt.
