Default makkah times for sunrise/sunset and moonrise/moonset on august 29th

beating a dead horse for those who know.

The sun rise/set time in Makkah for August 29th ( when the moon of eid was supposedly sighted)

Aug 29, 2011 6:03 AM 6:40 PM

Moon rise/set times

Aug 29, 2011 6:08 AM 6:44 PM New Moon at 6:04 AM

The moon set was 4 minutes after sunset. Normally a sightable moon (thick enough hilal) should set 20-30 minutes after sunset for it to be discernable ( not to be lost in the afterglow of the sunset).

Also it should be at lease 20 hrs old (from the time of the birth of new moon) for it to be sightable. It was less than 13 hrs old in Makkah.

These are astronomical data points. The probability of sighting in Makkah is prohibitively small, almost impossible.

However as with any sighting proponents, if a large crowd (not a few people) saw it then it should be accepted.
