Asalamwalaikum,
I was always told that if one never cries in matters of deen it is a sign that the heart has gone hard. It's not that crying must be forced (that can easily become rihya), but if one starts to cry naturally, well that truly is a sign of taqwa.
We had katme-quran yesterday during tarawi. I almost cried, but unfortunately for me, everytime it almost happened i became conscious and stopped.... i.e. i still had that self awareness when if i was focussing so much on Allah swt alone i would have forgot where i was and cried without noticing.
