I thought what you stated was somewhat far-fetched, but I saw the following fatwa on their site, which was even more outlandish than what you described:

Yes, I am not surprised. Every now and then theres always some sort of "strange" fatwa or statement that creates conterversy. Im sure theres individuals there who have great knowledge to share, however, I wouldnt feel comfortable just taking from them without reviewing what is said, asking other scholars etc.

Ali Jum'ah, the Mufti himself, said its ok to worship Allah following the Shia Ithna Ashri Madhab. And its not just him, but also others.
