5 stages of acquiring knowledge:
1. Istimaa' (Listening Attentively):
2. Insaat (silence, pondering):
3. Hifz (remembering or memorizing):
4. 'Amal (practice):
5. Nashr (preaching and imparting):

Most of us do half of the 1st stage (ie. just listening, not attentively), skip the rest and go directly to stage 5(preaching).

Sigh.
