True Islam actually openly preaches that women are property and they are to be controlled by men.

Virgins awaiting those who make it to paradise, two women are said to be worth one man, men can marry (and hold "captive") "two, three or four" wives, women can be exchanged like property, "men are in charge of women", men are encouraged to punish women, males inherit twice what women do etc. etc.

If you have read any of the Koran, you could list more and more examples.

If that guy has actually read the Koran, and thinks it doesn't promote the subjugation of women,

If someone is Islamic and doesn't believes in equality of women.... then they're not a good Muslim.
Wow. Are you here to tell us what we believe in? You might as well be humble and ask instead of dictate to Muslims what Islam teaches. I think you believe the Bible teaches you to be humble and to respect others, does it not?

1- The Bible, old and new testement, arent short of positions you mentioned towards women. If you (not you personally) dont follow your book, nor accept its teachings, then you might as well not claim to do so.

We on the other hand, arent apologetic. Our attitude is "we hear, and we obey". And "subjugation of women" is a relative issue. subjugation of women according to what?

As for marrying up to four wives. Look at the Bible, did you read it? Islam didnt allow or legislate marrying four. But earlier it was open, with no limits on number. The Torah and Injeel (Gospel) confirm this and never set any limitations. Only Islam did. Islam didnt start it, but rather restricted the number to four, and set limitations on equal treatment and mandatory obligations and rules related to their responsibilities. Also, non Muslims practices the same at the time. If you expect teachings to be in accordance of local laws of a small town in the midwest made up no more than 100 years ago, then you arent looking at things in their historical context. Therefore you'll have false premises leading to false conclusions.

Moreover, if you look at things with an open inquiring mind, and not a dictating one, and look at the series of events and laws in their historical context, you cannot possibly reach a conclusion other than "it makes sense", especially if you have a Christian or Jewish background. For instance, when a man had a newborn daughter, some would burry them alive, even if his tear is running down his cheek as his does so. In his mind hed be afraid that she'd dishonor him, or be captured during a war etc. Islam in the strongest terms ended this.

Women didnt have the right to inheritance, or any financial rights. Islam ended this, and made inheritance mandatory, and even made giving wife all of her financial needs mandatory as well. Theres no 50/50 ideas. If a man doesnt support his wife she can take him to court.

I recommend you dont actually tell others what they believe in. Thats not intelligent nor humble. Its supposedly against your religion too to have such qualities. One cannot ever learn without being humble and having an inquiring mind.
