True Islam actually openly preaches that women are property and they are to be controlled by men.

Where does it say that women are property. If its so is it permissible to sell ones wife? No.
If you are talking about slave women, then you should also have in mind all slaves can be sold be it Women or Men. So its not exclusive for women.

Women need protection and it is the 'Duty' of Men to do that.
And also have in mind after Allah and Rasoolullah

one of the most respected position is that of a 'Mother' which only a woman can occupy.
