On 20th of Feb, 2011 you started this thread "Were 'Sahaba' only the companions of difficult time? but i am sure you were not provided by straight answers since then. I think we answered this matter well enough: The 'Sahabas' are all those who saw the Prophet (SAW) embraced Islam and died while being in the condition of Islam. So it is not only those of difficult times. With respect to the Hadith brought by the original poster, it is referring to the fact that there is a ranking amongst the Sahabah, with those who went through more difficulties having a greater rank and having a special status. So the Hadith referred to is mentioning a sub-classification concerning the Sahabah, not rendering its technical definition.
