Meaning if a person says I believe in one God free from partners / sons etc but I reject Muhammad saws as his messenger he too enters hellfire ?

yes, who doesnt beleive in prophet

as last prophet he enters in hellfire.

"And whoever seeks a religion other than Islaam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers." [Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]
