i read that mental disorders do not happen in those who are truly religious muslims. is this true? from my own experience this doesnt appear to be true because i was very religious and during that time i developed schizophrenia. additionally my grandmother is religious and she developed schizophrenia as well.

Any disorder, mental or physical can occur in the religious. After all our Nabi

fell sick himself and even suffered the effects of magic and poisoning.
