bid'ah is when you innovate an act of worship into the religion that holds no basis in the practice of the prophet Salallahu alayhi wassalam.
That definition of bidah is incomplete.

Bidah is when you innovate an act of worship into the religion, that had a reason (sabab) to exist in the times of Rasoolullah (SAWW) and Sahaba, and yet it didn't exist in those times.

Going by the above definition, one can easily differentiate between a Sunnah amal and a Bidah.

There is nothing confusing about Bidah. If deobandis can atleast read the works of Maulana Sarfaraz Safdar (RA) like Rah-e-Sunnat (Path of Sunnah), etc, and others, there would be no confusion.

If one understands arabic, just pick up Al Ietesaam by Shatibi Gharnati (RA) and one would become absolutely crystal clear about Bidah.
