Personally, I use Goldwave for this; Audacity which is simpler would work too. However, your sound card must support as an output source the audio being outputted to your speakers. This source is often called "What-U-Hear" or "Stereo Mix"... it is somewhat convoluted to enable such a source in Windows Vista/7, but I can help you if needed.

You can also use the "WAVE" output source, if it works . The quality is usually better than the "What-U-Hear" setting.
